Questions and Answers
Question: Is tryout registration required?
Tryout registration is required. This allows us to prepare accordingly.
Q: When I register to tryout, it automatically places me in an age group based on my birthday. Does this mean I can only tryout for the team I am placed in?
Absolutely not. The tryout schedule is posted on our website. You can tryout for as many teams as you want. For example, you can try out for the U14 boys team, and the 96 Academy team if you were born in 96 and were born between 8/1/1996 and 12/31/1996.
Q: What is the difference between the Select, Development Academy and Academy Prep teams?
The Select teams are all our boys teams U15 and older that are not in the Development Academy. The Development Academy is the elite league in the U.S. and serves as a feeder system for the national team. It has essentially replaced Olympic Development Program.
There are only 77 clubs in the country in the Development Academy. The Bolts are a charter member. The select teams serve as a development program for our Development Academy. The Development Academy begins for those born in 1996. The select teams train players for possible future participation in the Development Academy. Moreover, all players on the select teams may be considered development players for the Development Academy. This means they may be called up to as many as six times to play games for the Development Academy.
The select teams and Development Academy often work closely together. We often see players start off in on the select teams and work their way up to the Development Academy.
Teams that play in the fall and spring on the boys side are in Academy Prep program. They are our top teams U14 and younger and are preparing for participation in the Develpoment Academy.
The Development Academy plays in the Development Academy league. The select teams and Academy Prep teams play in more local leagues, such as MAPLE and NEP. All of our players receive the best coaching in Massachusetts and more opportunities to excel and achieve because of our affiliation with the Development Academy.
