Frequently Asked Questions

What is the 24 Hour Soccer Match?
It is the one major community event for FC Greater Boston. It is designed to be fun, as well as beneficial to the Bolts and its partner charity, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

When and where is the event being held?
The match is being held January 7-8, 2012 at Mount Ida Athletic Center, 777 Dedham Street, Newton MA. The match will start at 12 noon on Saturday, January 7th and run through 12 noon Sunday, January 8th. Each Bolts team will play for a two hour block during the 24 hour fundraiser.

What is the fundraising goal for the event?
Our goal is to raise money for two great organizations! Each player is asked to raise $300-400. We recommend requesting $1 per hour of Bolts soccer, or $24. Thirteen donations would meet the minimum goal.

How will the funds be used?
Proceeds from the event will be shared between FC Greater Boston (going to our scholarship and general funds) and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
FC Greater Boston strives to provide top level professional coaching, programming and facilities, as well as providing scholarships for players/families with need. Additional funds are needed annually to help us continue to meet these goals. It is our expectation that with full participation from our players and families, we will be able to write a check to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in excess of $20,000.

Why are we partnering with Making Strides Against Breast Cancer?
As an organization, FCGB is concerned about, and committed to, the good health of its soccer players, coaches and families. The American Cancer Society and the Making Strides group do an exceptional job raising money and awareness about breast cancer, and as such, we fully support their efforts and hope you will too.

Will there be prizes for those that participate?
Yes! There will be many prizes for individuals, teams and coaches! The top individual fundraiser will receive a trip for two to London, England including hotel, airfare and tickets to see Manchester United play! The team that raises the most will receive custom Nike uniforms. Additional prizes will be announced in the near future.

What will happen on the day of the event?
Players should arrive one half hour before their team’s slot to drop off their donation sheets and pledges, warm up. If schedules permit, players and parents/friends should stay beyond their times to support the event and have fun! We’d especially appreciate support during the overnight matches.

Can non-Bolts members play in the Soccer Match?
Yes, additional players may join the event, subject to availability as determined by team coaches. All participants are required to obtain donations and complete a pledge sheet.

How do I make a donation? To whom should my donation check be written?
Players will collect all pledges and turn them in the day of the event. Checks should be made payable to FC Greater Boston. Please write "donation" in the memo line of your check.

Whom should I contact if I have questions?
Joan Munnelly, Director of Development and Community Outreach, at randj.munnelly@comcast.net.
